What is a Cigna dental savings plan – is it dental insurance?

A dental savings plan is an alternative to traditional dental insurance. Plan members pay an annual fee to access discounted rates on a wide range of dental services from a network of participating dentists.  

Can I use my Cigna dental savings plan with dental insurance?

You can’t use dental insurance and a dental savings plan together to reduce the cost of the same procedure, but you can use it to save on different procedures. You can also opt to use a dental savings plan instead of insurance in instances where your dental savings plan will save you more money. And, if you hit your insurance’s annual spending limit, you can use your dental savings plan to reduce the cost of additional dental treatments. Your dentist can help you determine how to best use your insurance and your dental savings plan, and its best to check your insurance policy for any restrictions. 

What types of dental services can I typically save on with a dental savings plan?

Most dental savings plans offer discounts on a wide range of services, including routine exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, and even dental implants and cosmetic dentistry procedures that dental insurance may not always cover.

Can I still use my dental savings plan I move to a different area or change dentists?

Many dental savings plans are accepted by a network of dentists nationwide. If you move or decide to change dentists, you can simply choose another participating dentist in your new area. It’s always recommended to check the plan’s network to ensure there are participating dentists near your new location. CignaPlus Savings has 110,000 dentists in its nationwide network! 

Can dental savings plans be used for emergency dental procedures?

Yes, dental savings plans are an excellent way to manage the costs of emergency dental procedures. Since, unlike dental insurance, there are no waiting periods, you can use the plan within 72 hours of joining (emergency activations may also be available), which is exactly what you need in urgent situations if you don’t have dental insurance, or if you have a waiting period for your dental insurance.
